FORKLIFTS and Rated Capacity

All forklifts have a rating, which is the maximum weight that they are designed to lift safely, often referred as SAFE WORKING LOAD (SWL) or WORKING LOAD LIMIT (WLL).  Depending on the type of forklift depends on how they are actually calculated.

Chinese Forklifts Value or Not, Here’s The Truth

In the last five years sales of Chinese forklifts have exploded throughout Australia, now Chinese Forklift are almost 20% of unit sales.  But the truth is the Chinese have been selling forklifts here in Australia for nearly four times as long.

The reason why so many people think this is a recent phenomenon is a simple matter of pacing. The Truth About Forklift LPG Inspections

Laws change all the time, and as a business it is crucial that you keep abreast of those changes.  It happens with forklifts all the time, the rules change, which is just what happened with the LPG systems on forklifts and forklift LPG inspections that are required under law by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines.

Under the new laws and regulations from September 2016, the LPG system on forklifts now need to be inspected every six months if they are a commercial vehicle and if its a hire forklift the hire company needs to be checked before every hire. (more…)

Are Linde Forklifts Really Worth The Money ?

The saying goes, there are forklifts, then there are Linde forklifts.  Linde forklifts origins start in Germany, as a German designed forklift with roots going back over a 130 years.  Linde is now part of the Kion Group and is a publicly traded company

Working With A Lift Work Platform

Forklifts are a very versatile tool to have in your workplace.  With a large range of attachments available, one of the most common slip-on attachments is the lift work platform. Unfortunately, a lot of Australian businesses don’t really know what is required under Australia Law when it comes to using a work platform with a forklift.

It is imperative to make sure you have the right capacity forklift and make sure that the attachment is rated correctly on your forklift. Let's take a look at what's required under Australian Law. Does your forklift comply with a lift work platform?

Buying A Used Forklift

If you have decided to buy a used forklift, weather it be updating your existing unit, starting a new venture.  There are literally thousands out there in the market place. It can get a bit daunting buying a used forklift.  But here's a few tips that might make it easier for you to navigate.

Know what you need

This is simple, there is a wide range of different specifications, you need to be sure of the job you are doing and what you need to do it.  Ie. - Wanting to load and unload containers -  Its pointless trying to drive into a container if you have a 5 000 mm 2 stage mast with a lowered clearance of 2 500 mm.

You need a three stage 4 500 mm mast, that has a lowered overall height to go into a container.

The best handling solutions involve the least handling.  Handling adds to the cost but not to the value of the product.  The choice of the right equipment or system to optimize material flow is broadly a definition of MATERIAL HANDLING and includes cranes, conveyors, automated vehicles, tractors, free ranging forklifts, order pickers, stackers and pallet trucks.

The Unit Load

Product, whether they can be cartons, bags, cans bottles, drums or sacks are assembled together to form a load.  The commonly used base on which unit loads are formed are flat wooden (sometimes plastic) pallets, ISO Containers, roll cages and tote bins.
